What is children’s university?

Learning For Fun…

Children’s University is a national charitable organisation that provides young people with exciting and innovative learning activities and experiences outside of normal school hours. Our innovative Passport to Learning encourages children from the age of five to try new learning experiences in and outside of school; at after-school clubs, at home, in the local library, museum or further afield.

Children’s University culminates in an inspirational graduation ceremony at the end of Year 2 and Year 6. The adventurous programme encourages children to see the joy of learning, giving them a sense of wonder, developing their confidence, and opening their eyes to a brighter future. Raising children’s aspirations is the driving force behind Children’s University and our aim is to work across Sefton, Liverpool, Lancashire and Warrington to develop the understanding that learning can be the navigator to better places in life.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Children's University?

Children’s University is a national charitable organisation which celebrates learning that takes place outside of school hours. Pupils collect ‘credits’ for the time they spend outside of school hours participating in a huge variety of different learning activities. If they have enough credits by the end of Year 2 or Year 6 they’ll be invited to graduate at one of our exciting ceremonies.

Where can i get my child a passport?

Usually, hours earned at school clubs will be recorded by your school. However if you want to collect credits at external Learning Destinations then you will need to purchase a Passport to Learning from your school office which your child keeps throughout their time at school. Not all schools use our Passport to Learning to register credits. We do not offer Passports to children who are not registered with a participating school.

How does my child collect credits?

There are a number of different ways your child can collect credits, including:

  • Attending after school clubs ran by their school.
  • Attending ‘Learning Destinations’ in your area (such as swimming lessons, cubs, brownies, football training, gymnastics lessons, music lessons, the list is endless!)

  • Attending structured activity sessions at libraries, museums, farms, leisure centres and more across the whole country.

  • By taking part in holiday challenges set by your local Children’s University. These can be found on our social media pages.

Usually one hour of learning will equal 1 credit.

Where can i find learning destinations?

Children’s University has Learning Destinations across the country. You can find details of all the providers in your area and beyond on the official website:

www.childrensuniversity.co.uk/activity-search

What if my child attends an activity that's not a learning destination?

Children’s University students can only collect external credits from our validated Learning Destinations. If your child attends an activity that isn’t on our website please ask them go to the link below and register to become a learning provider:
